University students check out the scissor lifts at Smiths Hire Liverpool

Our Smiths Hire Liverpool depot hosted a group of fourth year Mechanical Engineering students from Liverpool University recently.

The students are currently working on a project with Siemens Gamesa, who are pioneers in the development and expansion of onshore wind, contributing to the fight for a greener and more sustainable planet.

The project is to develop a vertical axis wind turbine for use in urban environments to generate clean energy.

The challenge would be how they were going to be able to raise the turbine above ground level, which is what prompted the visit to the Bootle depot to find out more about our range of scissor lifts and their capabilities. The Engineering students wanted to find out about the different types of scissor lifts available and to understand more about the mechanics of them within the structure.

One of the students had this to say about the visit – “Thank you for showing us around today and letting us look at some scissor lifts, it was very helpful.”

Depot manager, Alysha Culshaw said “We were thrilled to support the University students with their research. Our Liverpool depot is very much about the local community, that’s why when the University students reached out we were only too happy to help them with their important work on the renewable energy project by showing them our scissor lift range. But we are always on hand to offer help and advice to the local residents for all sorts of projects no matter what size.”
