We enjoyed another successful charity golf day last week, all the ingredients were in place – valued customers, a great venue, a dynamic sales & marketing team, a worthy charity – The Boathouse Youth and 18 holes of golf! Even some rain showers in the first half of the day didn’t halt proceedings and some sunshine appeared by the late morning so conditions were great.
We hosted around 60 of our Smiths Hire customers on the day and a total of 16 teams competed to be victorious in our Team Awards, which saw 3 teams win prestigious crystal golf trophies and bottles of bubbly – as well as all-important bragging rights!
We hosted this year’s annual event at the Heron’s Reach championship golf course at the Village Hotel in Blackpool. The golf team on the day, lead by Director of Golf – Richard Bowman, were fantastic and couldn’t do enough to make the day a success, so a big thank you to Richard and both the Golf and Hospitality teams on the day.
Our 16 teams set off nice and early for a 2-tee start following Stableford rules and were treated to refreshments throughout the course by our Blackpool & Fylde Business Development Manager, Sean McGow.
Our friends at Snorkel Lifts UK, proudly displayed some of their fabulous access machines at the putting green on the day, which looked great! A big thanks to Alec and the team for making this happen and for providing an amazing auction prize too.
We had some great on-course prizes up for grabs too –
And thanks to our friends Tim & Sean at Tower Insurance Brokers and to Tim Aspinall at Lloyd Allroad we were able to offer the ultimate prize for our Hole in One hole….. a pre-registered 2024 Ford Ranger 2.0 Wildtrak Pickup Truck!! Which looked stunning on the hill adjacent to the Clubhouse and the first tee.
We hosted post-round drinks at the 19th hole outside bar followed by a great meal in the Inspiration suite. The CEO of The Boathouse Youth charity – Laurance Hancock gave a great speech explaining his background and also telling us about his vision and work for the charity. If you aren’t familiar with The Boathouse Youth, they are a registered UK charity who work with children and young people aged 5 to 17, from socio-economically deprived communities across Blackpool, to help tackle the challenges they’re experiencing. They operate out of 2 youth centre locations – Bloomfield (South Shore) and Grange Park and their entire offer is fully funded and therefore free at the point of access. If you would like to donate to the charity, you can follow this link – Donate to The Boathouse Youth.
The charity raffle and auction was hosted by local renowned comedian and entertainer, Joey Blower, he had the room in stitches with his unique comedic style which assisted us to reach the grand total of over £2000 for the Boathouse Youth charity. Auction prizes up for grabs was an Apple iWatch, Luxury Fortnum & Mason wine hamper kindly donated by Mac’s Trucks, Bill Beaumont signed rugby ball and a signed Blackpool FC football. A big thanks to Joey for his support on the day and helping us to raise awareness and funds for the charity.
We have had some great feedback after the event from our customers –
“On behalf of myself and team I would like to thank you both and all at Smiths for the generous hospitality shown on the Golf Day at Herons Reach”
“Thank you once again for a great day and I hope your team enjoyed it as much as we did? 😊”
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank to all of our event supporters – Tower Insurance Brokers, Lloyd Allroad, Mac’s Trucks, Dingli, Graham at John Roberts Associates and Forsyth & Steele.
What a great day! We will be planning our next event very soon…..watch this space!
