On Sunday 26th May 2024, we celebrated with the city of Preston for their 50th anniversary of the Caribbean Carnival! The great British weather started off promising but let us down with torrential rain! However, the rain and threat of thunderstorms did not dampen the spirits of the procession goers and the spectators – who braved the rain with their umbrellas – were treated to an array of dance troupes with colourful, creative costumes.
The steel drums and Caribbean culture were in abundance as the procession snaked its way through Preston – from Moor Park down Deepdale Road, Meadow Street, St Paul’s Road and round to Garstang Road before returning to Moor Park for a full weekend of celebrations.
The Carnival has been bringing people of all ages and communities together for 50 years now. The colours, music, authentic food and drink made it a great day out for the all despite the wet weather conditions.
A big thank to our Preston depot manager, Stuart Nutley and his team for braving the weather on our Smiths Hire wagon for the parade, transporting a local knitting group as well as Smiths Hire staff and family on it too.
And a well done to Carol, Tracey, Jason and all the Carnival organisers and volunteers for arranging another great Caribbean Carnival event. We can’t wait to see what the 2025 Carnival has in store…
