We couldn’t have imagined a better day for our second charity golf event of the year – the weather was glorious (even too hot at times!) but we couldn’t have timed it better. It was great to connect with our customers again – some who are regulars at our golf events as well as welcoming some new faces too.
The setting for the day was the Staining Lodge Golf Course, a challenging 18 holes set in 160 acres of rural Fylde countryside. The views stretching to the Pennines and the last of the Summer sun beating down for the full day, made it a day to remember!
Our teams (13 of them in all) enjoyed bacon butties on arrival followed by a delicious traditional Lancashire Hotpot after their round of golf, in the modern and bright- The fabulous Glasshouse! The camaraderie and competitiveness amongst the teams was apparent from the offset, with bragging rights to be won in the form of Team Winner and Team Runner Up awards. We had some great players out on the course and one player had a near miss on our £10,000 Hole In One prize hole, which was kindly sponsored by our friends at Tower Insurance Brokers – narrowly missing the hole by about 6ft but landing it nicely on the green all the same!
Our chosen charity for the event was Fylde Rugby Community Foundation – this charitable organisation objective is to improve access to rugby union in the Fylde, Wyre and Blackpool areas. The Foundation offers community pathways for participation and appreciation of the sport – regardless of age, sex, religion or background – built around the Rugby Football Union’s core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline, and Sportsmanship. In particular, our focus is on supporting and working with some of the many vulnerable young people who live in the more deprived areas within our local community, as well as children and young adults with Special Educational Needs, disabled people and the older generation in supporting social activity.
Our suppliers and partners, as well as ourselves, donated some wonderful raffle and auction prizes. Their kind donations meant that we had a great array up for grabs for the attendees, who participated with so much generosity on the day and for such a great cause who could blame them. We were thrilled to have raised a grand total of £3350! Part of which was raised via our Name the Bear competition (the giant soft toy ended up being named Freddie!) as well as the return of our popular Cement Mixer Challenge – which gets the competitive side of the most laid-back person in action!
Special thanks go to Ewan and his team at Staining Lodge Golf Course, Tony Johnstone – our PGA golf pro, Alec at Snorkel who supplied some display machines on the day as well as sponsoring our Longest Drive prize hole by donating an Apple iPad, Tim and the team at Tower Insurance Brokers for sponsoring our Hole in One prize, Martin at Napthens for hosting our auction on the day as well as our many suppliers.
